Huge

As some of you may be aware, REBEL8 is once again in a noticeable transitional phase. We haven’t had a change this big since our first move back in ‘06 from my 10×10 studio apartment on Divisadero  Street to a 1,000 square foot warehouse on 3rd. Most times, you see the finished product after months of sampling & production;  after countless subtle and sometimes drastic alterations. Only after a seasonal release do you see the progression of the brand in comparison to the previous. However, behind the scenes we are always moving and in constant shift.

Through our Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and this very blog, I try to pull back the curtain and show you the insides of the REBEL8 operation. There are no smoke & mirrors. For example, our main man Mike Giant handles the illustrations. He draws on paper with a Sharpie. That’s how it gets done. The magic is in the craft and process. We are in constant motion playing this streetwear game on an ever-changing field. I think a suitable metaphor is a surfer catching the best wave of his life.

So please bare with us as we once again go under construction. Our Spring 2013 collection will begin hitting stores in a few weeks. Spring ‘13 marks the first time we are doing two separate seasonal deliveries. The second drop lands in shops mid-March. The complete Spring ‘13 collection will be available to buy in our online store end of March. Do not expect any new products in our online store until then.

REBEL8, by far, is the best company I’ve ever created and has been the most enjoyable to not only watch but be a part of. 2013 marks our 10th year in business and with our move into a warehouse six times the size of our current space, it feels like we are starting all over again. I’m ready for the next chapter of REBEL8. And I’m glad you are still here to help write it.

Thank you.

Happy New Year!

Hope everybody survived the holidays. I was in sunny Los Angeles for New Years.

I got a new tattoo from Chris Conn.

And partied with the homies until midnight. Here I am ringing in 2013 with Myla, Roger Gastman, Shane Jessup and Dabs!

Now I’m back in my little San Francisco studio looking forward to the new year. 2012 kinda sucked for me, so I’m hoping to get my mojo back in 2013. Time will tell.

Thanks for all your continued support over the last decade. We’ve grown a lot over all those years but something tells me that 2013 is going to be our biggest year yet.

REBEL8 for life!

Black Holidays

Decided to flip our logo stickers and run a kool half-a-milli of them. I’m not putting them up for sale for a minute. But I am having around 50 of them thrown in for free with every order placed through our online shop. Buy anything and we’ll hook it up with some black logo stickers. Spread the 8!

I guess now would be an appropriate time to also wish you a Happy Holidays! Personally, I get really fucking weird around this time of the year. I’m just not a big Holiday guy. I find myself just going through the motions emotionless like I’m riding on auto-pilot.

However, I do spend a considerable amount of time reflecting on the past months. I judge my own actions, both good and bad, and figure out what I could have done better. Most times, it is never one big thing, like you probably shouldn’t have pounded that pint of beer immediately following an ice cream sundae. Although take note, do not do that, ever. It’s usually, at least for me, a deeper reflection of my character. I’ve always loved this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson. He stated, “Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become deeds. Watch your deeds; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Character is everything.” Sit on that for a second. Real as shit, huh?

So how did I do this year? What could I have done better for REBEL8? I’m not just asking myself these questions throughout my days, I’m also asking you. And when I see you, please let me know. Some people talk a lot of talk and it remains just that, talk. But if I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting you, you know I am a man of action. My word is bond. And at the end of the day, it’s all I got.

See, REBEL8 is a brand with integrity. If I had none, how could I possibly own and run a company with any? I think that is the biggest misstep a lot of these other companies make. Not being true to who they really are. If you are a fake motherfucker, be a fake motherfucker. Keep it real. Haha! I’m just Joshing. I’m just serious.

Look, REBEL8 may not ever be the most popular brand or the richest company. I’m fine with that because I’ve always been fine with that. That’s never been my motivation. Since Day One, and now day number only God-knows, REBEL8’s core purpose is still to showcase our trademarked lifestyle through unique products. We are not a sales driven company. We’ve never been. It’s design first at REBEL8: always has been, and always will be.

And I can’t stress this enough. With your positive energy, with your contagious enthusiasm, and with your continued passion, we can’t be stopped!

THANK YOU for being part of my life and an integral component of what makes REBEL8 so amazing.

Enjoy these Holidays! Relax, smile and breathe. And if shopping makes the list, make that list full of REBEL8.

Spraypainting

Painted the side wall of Amoeba Records on Upper Haight with friends on Thursday.

I freestyled this one around some windows.
