This is a message I just sent to our loyal REBEL8ers:
REBEL8ers!
Hope this message finds you well.
Before I give you an update on some of the haps on my side, I want to make a special mention of a Free Shipping promotion we are currently running at REBEL8.com. If you are shipping to a United States address, you can get Free Shipping if you have at least $100 in your stash. That's basically a hoodie and a snapback and you're set! Or a sh*t ton of socks, which is not a bad idea either. Orrrrr 3.5714285 tees. That is a joke. I am Joshing. Let me spell it out for you stoners, you cannot order 3.5 tees.
Back to the biz. Things have been busy as usual at R8HQ. I actually got OCD the other day and cleaned the entire warehouse by myself. I got crucial on it. I think I'm gonna open the doors to our warehouse for an end-of-year $ale. It will be the first time I've ever allowed anyone into the warehouse pretty much. I'll keep you posted on that fa sho. The design team has been steady grinding. I'm super stoked on our future drops. I can't even tell you how far we are designing out. It's craaazzzy.
I've been traveling a lot as usual. Flying gets old, but meeting you guys never does. I seriously enjoy learning as much about you, as you do me. I'm blessed for REBEL8 to have such a rad following.
Hmmm, what else? Ummm. Oh! My lovely Lady 8ers! I do apologize for the bullsh*t selection of product on REBEL8.com. I got a few tops currently in production that should drop shortly. But I agree, that is not enough. And it won't be enough until next year. Sorry. I'm bringing in a real pro to exclusively run our womens department mid-2013. That will change everything. Start saving your $$.
The last thing I want to say is how important you are to REBEL8. Not just me. But to REBEL8 as a brand, as a company, and as a group of like-minded individuals. Each and every one of you are the best embassadors to REBEL8. I urge you to constantly spread the 8; whether it be on your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or in the flesh and blood. And while it hurts to see someone wearing a bullsh*t knock-off. Hold fast. And keep on. Many will come and go, but you and I will always be you and I.
REBEL8 Forever, Forever REBEL8.
Much love,
Joshy D.
And if you didn't read anything above, spend $100 and get free shipping. Boom!
As many of you know, I don't watch television. I don't like to feed that shit to my brain. I do love watching certain movies on my huge flat screen, but I love curling up with a book even more, especially when combined with some mellow tunes, a fat joint and a hot cup of Yogi tea. This morning I was digging through this pile of books and thought it would be cool to share a little about them, hoping to inspire more of you to support your local bookstores and watch less TV.
So, starting from the upper left and moving clockwise.
First is a photo book called “Someone Cuts My Hair While I Sleep” by Todd Fisher. I flipped through it once at the bookstore and had to have it. Great photos and really witty editing. Next to that is “Action! Mystery! Thrills! – Comic Book Covers of the Golden Age 1933-1945”. I love comic illustration from that era and this collection is really outstanding. Next is a 420-page book by Edgar Allen Poe called “Tales of Mystery and Imagination”. It’s a reprint of an original edition from 1933. It was illustrated by Harry Clarke, whose black and white illustrations are particularly inspiring. In the upper right corner is “Voguing and the House Ballroom Scene of New York City 1989-92” featuring some amazing photographs by Chantal Regnault. This book gives a rare look into early House culture, and anybody that knows me knows that I love House music. Really fresh. Below that is “I Love You” magazine from Germany. I had a drawing featured in a previous issue and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. Great style and uplifting writing. Highly recommended. Next to that is “Hosoi” by skateboarding legend Christian Hosoi. I read it straight through and loved it. I think he’s seen a lot in his life and learned some important lessons along the way. Check it out. Next to that is “Sadhus – The Holy Men of India” by Rajesh Bedi. It was published in 1991 and features lots of great photos of sadhus doing yoga, covering their bodies with ash, painting their faces and smoking hash. I find their way of life really inspiring. Next to that is an art book from China about eagles. All the writing is in Chinese, and I can’t read Chinese, so I don’t know who the artist is. Regardless, this book has the best images of eagles in flight that I’ve ever seen. A friend gave it to me for my birthday. Thanks, Derick!
And remember what John Waters said, “If you go home with somebody, and they don’t have books, don’t fuck ‘em!”
A couple months back we released our Journey To The End collection (REBEL8 x Rancid collab). We also shot a lookbook for it with our friend Skinhead Rob (Tran$plants, Death March). Here are a few "behind the scenes" shots by yours truly.

The official lookbook was shot by Dylan Bartolini-Volk in Long Beach, CA.

Rob is hella fast at rolling Backwoods.

Maybe faster at smoking them.

Skinhead & Mandee Guns.

It's a wrap!

The REBEL8 x Rancid collab is still available in our online store. I must digress, if your size is still available, jump on it! Down to a few tees.
Lots of memories right here. Still can't believe it's been 9 years. This isn't every single catalog we've produced, but here are most of the REBEL8 original print wholesale catalogs. Now for sale exclusively in our online shop.
That day was a good day on the Bay.

I love shrimp. So many delicious ways to consume. These two photos are from a spot in Fresno, CA.

Here are a few photos from my trip to Yosemite. Hope you enjoy them.

I sat speechless, in awe, for hours, watching these river rats yell at their pitbulls, smoke bowl after bowl, and most notably, attempt to fly a kite connected to a fishing rod in little to no wind. Don't be fooled, although in close proximity to SF, the Russian River is ghetto.
